We're in conjunction with
-----------------------------How Does It Work?------------------
The program consists of two groups of people working together. There are the "Newbies" and the "Mentors". The newbies are the new people, the ones that are scratching their heads when someone says "ISO" or sees F/ followed by numbers. The mentors are the people who have been in the hobby a while, and know all the ins and outs of composition, what to do in certain situations, can explain how to bounce flash, and how to compensate for the colour of artificial light to make a photograph look better. These are the photo-taking-and-editing gurus. So, this is how it works. There will be mentors that have applied to be mentors. All the newbie has to do is sign up under the approproate journal and they will be paired up with a mentor. Then, whenever the newbie has questions, he or she notes the mentor or meets in chat to discuss the problem. There will also be regularly scheduled meetings in #adoptanewbie called "Newbie Nights".
-----------------------------So, How Do I Sign Up?--------------
You can sign up under the journals that bear the name of the group you want to be in (Look under "Journal History"). The journal "Mentor" will be the journal for mentors to sign up under, and the qualifications for mentors will be listed there. The "Newbie" journal will have the info and sign up sheets for newbies as well.
-------------------------How Long Will I Be A Newbie?-----------
Like everything else, Photography has a leanring curve. When newbies get paired up with a mentor, the mentor might ask the newbie what s/he already knows, then build on that knowledge. Newbie releases will occur when the mentor/newbie agree that the newbie knows enough to get by on his/her own. Of course, we encourage making friends in the process, and keeping in touch. All relationships can be mutually beneficial.
--------What If I Am Not a Newbie, but not a Mentor Either?----
You can still help out! Even if you're not a newbie, but don't feel ready to take on the responsiblities of a mentor, you can still help out the club by promoting it. You can tell a friend about us, post links to us in forums, signature lines, in journals, and if you have a club, you can affiliate with us. Of course, we always encourage you to stop by #AdoptANewbie, our chatroom, and swap ideas and information. And, of course, you should always be working to becoming a better photographer, and maby someday you'll feel comfortable being a mentor.
-----------------------So, What Chat Rooms Do I Hang Out In?---- #iPhotograph, #adoptanewbie and #iMentor(for mentors) of course!
